Didn’t try these in 2011? Make them in 2012.

As the New Year rolls around I figured this would be as good a time as any to go ahead and jump on that “Top 10 list” bandwagon.

I’m a pretty big fan of lists as a whole.

Grocery and to-do lists do their best to keep this scatter brain temporarily focused.

Lists like this make me choke up and smile (#6, #42), gasp in shock (#10 & #18) and then again in horror (#16), cry (#20) and then smile (#25 & #34).

Lists like this, while mildly disturbing (see #18), make me giggle a whole lot.

And then there are lists like this that leave me wondering who these shoplifters are? Filet Mignon, Axe Body Spray, Let’s Rock Elmo?

Lists like this overwhelm me… and eventually my Kindle.

And for those who disagree with any end of year lists there’s this.

So many lists – so little time.

Now for a list that makes your stomach rumble (in a good way) and you drool (in a delicious way).

Sweetie & The Kitchen’s Top 10 Recipes of 2011 LIST!

#10 Best Ever Meatballs and Red Sauce

This quick and easy meal has made several reappearances in my kitchen and most recently in my Mom’s when Sweets and I made her birthday dinner.  And while most associate meatballs and red sauce with pasta, this hearty dish really doesn’t need it, it’s super filling and so delicious you won’t even know you’re missing any noodles!  Save your carbs for dessert and eat some cake!

#9 Grilled New York and Chimichurri

Lord have Mercy!  Sweets may not always be over the moon to help  me with the dinner menu that week but when that boy decides what we’re making for dinner, he does NOT disappoint.  Ahem, see above.  He takes grilling to a whole other level.  A delicious one.  I sure do love that man.

#8 Guacamole with Blue Cheese, Sage and BACON (Turkey Bacon)

“What should we bring?”

“Maybe just a dip or side dish?”

Lucky for that summer BBQ Sweets and I had just watched an episode of Best Thing I Ever Ate where we saw this gem.  And oh boy was it ever gem-like. Which is to say it was the best dip/side dish ever made.

tequilla berries
Would you like some tequila with those strawberries?

#7 Strawberry Infused Tequila

It was a hot summer but this tasty treat did the refreshing trick.  And after 7 days of patient infusing this became this and it was a beautiful thing.

Stuffed Poblano 19
Cheesy Bubbly Goodness

#7 Stuffed Poblano Peppers

I know I know, I already did a #7 but in writing this blog my stomach directed me to this post.  And while I think you should really infuse your tequila with strawberries I don’t know if that quite counts as a recipe and I also think you should REALLY make these!  Actually I think you should make everything in this blog… this list idea is really not as easy as  I had anticipated… and what was I thinking posting this before lunch!

Back to the peppers, make them.  You won’t regret it, they’re amazing.  And if you’re avoiding carbs give these a try with spiced shredded chicken!  Sweets made me some stuffed peppers that way recently and I was left thinking “cous cous/rice who?”

#6 Smoked Salmon and Arugula Carpaccio

Sweets has another woman in his life.  Her name is Giada.  And while I might kill her if she ever tries to get fresh with Sweets, I do appreciate the recipes she has inspired.  This one made me particularly forgiving of the hold she has on my man’s heart.

lamb kebabs & cucumber salad

#5 Lamb Kabobs and Cucumber, Tomato & Feta Salad

In case your mind goes there… I’m well aware that this kabob kind of looks like a log but when you try how delicious it is you will not care what it resembles because it is really REALLY tasty.  Somehow ground lamb makes it onto my grocery list every other week and some variation of this dish always comes out of it,  it never disappoints and there are never any leftovers.  Pretty good signs all around.

#4 Slow Cooker Magic

Everything I have ever made in my slow cooker has been delicious.  Chicken, beans, stew, beef it’s all a million times more delicious than any other way I’ve ever prepared them.  This particular recipe is one of my favorite slow cooker recipes, BBQ Chicken, but really anything prepared in a slow cooker should make a top ten yummy list.

Key Lime Treats
Key Lime Squarish Treats

#3 Key Lime Squares

Warning: If you make these have someone/somewhere to take them as soon as they are ready to consume.  Otherwise…

You. Will. Eat. Them. ALL.

That is not an exaggeration.  It is a true story.  That happened to this girl I know… with beautiful dark hair and a great sense of style and… ummm… ergh… never mind.  Just be careful.

salmon burgers
Salmon Burger Sliders

#2 Salmon Burger Sliders

Remember that song “Yummy, yummy, yummy I got love in my tummy!”  I think the love they were referring to were these.  “Yummy, yummy, yummy I’ve got salmon burger sliders in my tummy” just doesn’t have the same ring.  Make these, you’ll  understand.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

#1 Kneez’s Choice Chicken Tortilla Soup

Who on earth is Kneez you ask?  Moi.  Derived from Honey, which eventually became Honeeeeyzzzz!!! Shortened to just Kneez.

I. Love. This. Soup.

I love this soup AS MUCH (that’s right folks as much as in equal to) as I love BEANS.

For those of you who know me or even just read this blog you are well aware that, that one fact alone speaks volumes.

frito pie
The finished product.

#1 Sweets Choice FRITO PRIDE!

Since our recent carb hiatus this dish is what Sweets misses most.  Everything from the beans to the green chile sauce to the avocado to the onions to the cheese to the Fritos just goes perfectly.  Each bite and every single flavor just leaves you wanting more and more and more…  It’s dangerously yet delightfully delicious and so easy to prepare!

And Sweets if you’re reading this, Merry Christmas baby, we’ll be feasting on these for Christmas dinner.

So there it is folks, my very first Top 10 (11&12) List!

I hope everyone has had a most tasty 2011!  Here’s to a wonderful holiday season filled with lots of treats of a savory and sweet nature!
